WHAT DO I GET BUT NOTHING?
WHAT DO I GET BUT NUH -UH OTHING?
WHAT DO I GET BUT NOTHING?
WHAT DO I GET BUT NOTHING?
I take you out, you wander off in the crowd
A bar tab is the company I'm allowed
I give you all the pretty things
I'm always there when the telephone rings
I do just about everything
Its true
Its true!
CHORUS: repeat
I pay your tickets when you run a red light
But come my birthday there's no celebration in sight
I give you all the pretty things
I'm always there when the telephone rings
I do just about everything
Its true
Its true!
CHORUS: repeat
(bridge)
CHORUS: repeat
Unlike most of my work I can tell you exactly when and where I wrote this piece. In Old Town Alexandria, at the corner of King and Patrick Streets, while walking my dog, the entire thing just came to me. Lyrics, melody, it was all there. The band brushed it up a bit and added a bridge but the basics were all there right from the start. - Fitz
