Tangled with snakes
How did it go so far?
Strange how mistakes can
Make us who we are
Make us who we are
I've shaken hands with quicksand
and sunk up to my neck
A dare to far against an armored car
and I'm lying in the wreck
The slightest trace a sliver thread
Stretching back so far
Strange what a narrow tread
Makes us who we are
Makes us who we are
Makes us who we are
(bridge)
Tangled with snakes
How did it go so far?
Strange how mistakes can
Make us who we are
Make us who we are
Make us who we are
This song represents the first of many "version 1.0" songs we're going to demo here. The idea is to really stretch out and try new things and see what reaction we get. Most of these songs will end up on the next album but will undoubtedly be edited, polished, and pulled into a more cohesive set. Please let us know what you let us think of these early versions.
Sonically, this piece is very different from what we've done before. I originally wrote it on a trip in 2005 using Apple's GarageBand exclusively. Later I reworked the synthesizers and lyrics and Jay added in the hi-contrast guitar part. When I became aware of the Snakes on a Plane contest I thought "Hell, we've got a snake song lying around. Why not enter it?". Thus it became the first bit of the second album out the door.
